H1N1 declared national emergency
On October 26th, from Washington,Obama declared a national emergency for the H1N1 virus, commonly known as 'swine flu'. Millions of people in the U.S. have been infected; 2,000 taken to the hospital, and around 1,000 killed. Obama's announcement allowed the government to temporarily change some requirements.
The swine flu story is important because it was the first pandemic of the 21st century. According to the World Health Organization, there were 599,880 confirmed cases by the time of November 15th.
